Crosby has never been part of Liverpool

Yes, I have complained before about outsiders pretending they are ‘Scousers’ or pretending have something to do with Liverpool (here).  But, I’m about to complain some more.

Not a Scouser, just a Seftonite

The X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins comes from Crosby, not from Liverpool.  So why was the Lord Mayor of Liverpool (in full chains of office) in the audience to gee him on?  More importantly, why was the Mayor of Sefton nowhere to be seen?

Crosby is a town in Sefton.  Decades ago it used to be part of Lancashire.  It is not part of Liverpool.  It has never been part of Liverpool.  It is to the north of Liverpool. Liverpool is to the south of Sefton.

So, why on earth was an official from Liverpool in the crowds of the X Factor final at Wembley Arena, supposedly ‘representing’ his home town.  The Marcus Collins home town is Crosby, in Sefton.

Sefton has its own Mayor.  Where was he?  Why wasn’t he there supporting his local talent?

Isn’t this all as bizarre as the Mayor of London attending a function to support somebody from Essex?  London is not Essex.  Essex is not London.  Likewise Sefton is not Liverpool.  Liverpool is not Sefton.

Indeed, bizarrely, during a ‘home-coming’ event in the week before the final, Collins performed to the crowds in the centre of Liverpool.  Why wasn’t he performing to crowds in Sefton, ideally in Crosby where he comes from?

Again, this is as bizarre as a contestant from Liverpool having a ‘home-coming’ event in Manchester.

Indeed, when Rebecca Ferguson was a contestant in 2010, she came from Anfield in Liverpool, and it was right and proper that she be hailed as from Liverpool.  She is a true Scouser, not an outsider.  It would have been very strange if they’d decided to stage her ‘home-coming’ event in Sefton.  Even more bizarre if the Mayor of Sefton had attended X Factor in full chains of office to show his support.

Why are outsiders constantly trying to pretend they are from Liverpool?  Yep, Sefton is part of ‘Merseyside’, Liverpool is part of ‘Merseyside’, and it would be acceptable for X Factor judges to have implored “the whole of Merseyside” or “the whole of the North-West” to vote for Collins.  But, why pick on just Liverpool, asking us to vote for somebody who’s nothing to do with Liverpool?

There are too many people pretending they are from Liverpool.  It needs to stop, and it needs to stop now!
