Save the swastika

The Swastika is a lovely symbol. It means a lot to a lot of people, and yet there are those who want it banned. This must not be allowed to happen.

The Swastika is the second most important Hindu symbol, and in their belief system it is used to help ward off evil. It’s very name “swastika” translates from the Sanskrit word for “good to be”. It appears throughout ancient history, and had an importance in Buddhism and Jainism, plus other Asian, European and Native American cultures.

There are discussions about whether the ‘arms’ should go to the left or to the right, and whether or not there should also be dots involved.

Anyway, the bottom line is that the symbol that was hijacked and used to represent one of the most oppressive regimes outside of America, the Nazi party, has a history. A good history.

Somehow the reactionary loonies that Govern think the symbol should be banned. How stupid. Like banning a symbol will stop the rise in nationalism, if that’s what it’s about. Or it’ll suddenly change history and the Nazis won’t have been responsible for what they did during the war, if that’s what banning it is about.

The cross has been the symbol of one of the most torturous killing machines in history, yet nobody moves to ban the cross. So, leave the swastika alone. Look at the people instead of the shapes of the things around them.
