Hajj has started.

And it’s been modernised.

It’s live on Youtube.

There is something very calming and somewhat hypnotic about watching the faithful shuffling round in circles. And there are so very many of them.

In one way I feel sorrow that so many need the blind faith of any religion in order to exist.  Yet, in another way I can appreciate why Islam is the fastest growing religion and will soon eclipse all others.

Many of the people you see here will have travelled from across the world to attend for once in a lifetime.  Most are very poor and may have given up so much in order to make their pilgrimage, to be part of this extremely ‘pretty’ event, such is their utter and unquestioning devotion.

I pity yet marvel at them at the same time.
