The British TV and radio news, the British press and the British entertainment industry is dominated by North American products. Quite often the lead headline will be about some domestic incident in North America, or a political haggling between States that will never affect anywhere else in the planet.
Why are we obsessed with this declining world power?
Although there’s a lot of news and activity we could be consuming from our own country, the North Americans bump it into second or third place. We seem to have slowly, over the post-war decades, treated North America as if it is the mainland to which we are but a small island, the 51st State. Yet, we have nothing to do with them.
News from our neighbouring Europe, or Ireland, gets pushed behind the story of a citizen in New York breaking their finger nail. Why? What is this obsession with North America? We don’t have it with South America. Nor do we have it with Canada, to the north of North America.
North America as a world power is on the steady decline. And, as most of the thousands of North American based films and TV series demonstrate, it is not the nicest place morally. Human life is constantly being taken by the prolific gun and god worshipping nutters that dominate. Indeed, when it comes to religion, North America remains back in the dark ages over most of its territory, on a par with Iran, but just worshipping a different flavoured god. Why are we obsessed with this retarded civilisation?
If we must forego our domestic news and information, in favour of a country with an impressive and growing economy, why aren’t we here in Britain obsessed with China or India, or even technologically superior places like South Korea?
Bollywood churns out as many films as Hollywood, and the Indian soaps are prolific, and yet they rarely make an appearance on British TV. Instead, British TV is dominated by North American pap. Why?
Surely, it’s time to move away from an obsession with the USA, who are basically a bunch of losers, and start to back the winners. We need more news and more TV programming from nations that should inspire us. Come on BBC, Sky, ITV et al, if we must have so much stuff from outside of Great Britain, let’s learn and be inspired by the countries and civilisations that are on the rise on the global stage.
