(A guest article by Bemused from Bermondsey)
A lot has been made recently of energy prices to the consumer with politicians shouting loudly what they would like to do to help consumers. But not one of them has got a solution that is acceptable.
Take the Tory solution:
They want to do nothing more than look at the energy market to see if it is working. This will involve months of investigation, evidence and lots of people making money out of you and will conclude with a shrug of the shoulders.
I can tell you now that it isn’t working as well as it should and that more competition will always help provided the market is left free. There, saved the taxpayer a heap of cash and made it better.
Take the Labour solution:
Prices will be capped by Government control.
Oh dear, has nothing been learned from the energy crisis in California only a few years ago?
There, the state decided that energy was too expensive so put a cap on costs. This meant that the energy providers either went out of business or stopped producing electricity when it was unprofitable to do so, hence the power cuts, hence the looting and the scars that are still there today.
This is a ridiculous policy dreamed up by somebody that has never run a business, that reduced the number of energy players in the market from 20 to 6 and then added green taxes to our bills. These taxes had the sole purpose of making energy more expensive so we would use less and therefore reduce our CO2 emissions, not that CO2 is a problem anyway. Note that China emits 27 times as much as but that’s fine.
We were told that this would be ‘a price worth paying’.
No Ed, sacrificing people at the altar of man made climate change is not a price worth paying and whilst I’m at it, thanks for running away with regard to building new power stations over your 13 years. We’re now closing power stations as they don’t conform to EU regulations but energy consumption is increasing. Like most Labour policies, they expect everything to be powered by the magic money tree, pixie farts and Unicorn piss.
Take the Lib-Dem solution:
Er……..
So what do we do?
Cut all green taxes. Man made climate change is a scam and people are dying because of this myth.
Open up the market to be as free as possible.
Use the coal that we have plenty of – we no longer need to mine it, it can be converted to gas whilst still underground.
Get on with fracking. Stop listening to the lies and deceit spread by unwashed, yurt dwellers. The US used to be a net importer of gas and now they export – we can have energy independence so what are you waiting for?
Stop the subsidies to wind farms, you know it’s a load of cock as well as I do so just admit it.
Tell the EU that we will no longer impose VAT on energy prices.
Any tax cuts will be paid for by cutting Government spending, just as you would if your income reduced.
Nothing will happen. There may be fiddling around the edges but with professional politicians in charge, nothing will happen.
