Asteroids and meteorites are going to get you

A large percentage of the human race, possibly spurred on by the fear of death, love to fear apocalypse. The ‘human-haters’ (usually those suffering from the veganism OCD) would love that humans be to blame for something, anything, that contributes to our discomfort or annihilation.

The most recent meme in this respect was global warming or climate change.  Whilst the human-haters clung to it as their salvation for the punishment of other humans, the opportunists clung to it as a method of becoming extremely rich.  Those in the game (and it really is a ‘game’) of making scientific investigations, those building ‘renewables’ and wind farms, those dealing with carbon tax, and those wanting to spread the fear, all make huge profits from promoting global warming.

As it’s been nearly 20 years since any statistically significant warming has been seen and all computer models predicting disaster have failed, the need is now to find a replacement to the man made climate change fear.

And, just in the nick of time for them, along came one.  Yay!

In a bizarre, yet fortuitous coincidence, a massive meteorite streaked through the Russian sky and to earth, hurting over 1,200 people as the sound shockwaves from it blew out windows, and, completely separately, an asteroid with the sexy name “2012 DA-14” shot visibly past the earth inside the belt at which we park some of our geostationary orbiting satellites.

Now then, there’s got to be money to be made in hyping up the fear of an asteroid collision with our planet, surely?

I mean, after all, it is potentially a catastrophic life extinction event that the human-haters would be proud of. Their excitement will be palpable.

Maybe they’ll shift their emphasis from blaming such an event on humans (as they once blamed global warming), and start wailing that we are to blame for not preparing ourselves.  You can be sure they’ll work out a way to tut tut about us all and try to lay a guilt trip our way.

Meanwhile, instead of research into climate change, the obscene funding could be diverted into getting counter-measures ready.  Think of all the endless scientific research that could be funded, and how a global collective frontline defence could be built using the money that was being raised in the name of carbon tax. Maybe there could even be an Asteroid tax.

Religions wouldn’t have to be left behind.  They could get in on the action by telling the gullible that god was behind any pending collision event, and we were in need of his love through punishment.  Heck, there might even be a new Noah building an ark.

The potential for making money and for controlling the masses far exceeds the potential from the global warming scare.  Will we see a rapid change of emphasis over the next few years away from climate change and on to predicting, preparing and then trying to protect ourselves from an Asteroid collision?
