Much has been written about the completely ignorant Christian politician Todd Akin who described an event as being ‘Legitimate Rape’ and how in this case a woman’s body could in some way shut itself down to avoid pregnancy.
I felt such despair that in this modern, supposedly enlightened day and age there really are people who are this ignorant. And they are in positions of power over others. Good grief. “Legitimate Rape?” What a complete arsehole.
Taking those two words a piece at a time, what would ‘legitimise’ rape? Well, nothing of course. I guess he would argue he didn’t mean ‘legitimate’ as in ‘legal or ‘allowed’, but ‘actual’ or ‘proper’ or ‘full’ or something. Yes, I find it hard to visualise how a rape is anything but a rape, but we have to try to understand the mind of these ridiculous Christians.
So, it’s probably that he seems to think that there is some kind of ‘proper’ rape (as opposed to what I’m not sure). But what does this Christian imagine the human body is capable of actually doing in order to prevent post-rape pregnancy? Which one of the Christian fantasies is this belief born of? Does it say in the Bible that women have the ability to act like a tortoise and ping their ovaries and other innards into some kind of shell device to avoid incoming sperm?
The fact that he believes this sort of mechanism exists is beyond the comprehension of any rational or normal person. Does he also believe that women subjected to his ‘legitimate rape’ don’t ever get pregnant?
What a complete fool this Christian is. And yet he governs people and wants to carry on making decisions that effect them.
The mentality is similar to that you’d expect from any 5 year old mixing childhood fantasy with reality, and not fully understanding where one stops and the other starts. It’s like Akin has never matured beyond a mental age of 5 when it comes to understanding reality, or that at 65 he has seriously regressed to childhood illogic. To him the teddy bear he sleeps tucked up with at night is alive and is his friend and companion, not a stuffed toy.
That’s the level of understanding he has about reality. Are the Americans really going to put a 5 year old Christian in the Senate?

Interesting. I can see nothing in Akins views that I would call “Christian”. But – is a Christian (a) someone who attempts to follow the life and teaching of Jesus or (b)someone who believes the same as the majority of other “Christians”?
Given the number of religious loonies in the USA, (b)is nothing like (a)!

Any Christian, if he is being a proper devotee, takes instruction for everything and anything from the Bible. The religion demands that the follower not use his brain, logic, or any other systems or resources in order to arrive at decisions. He can only use the Bible.
The Bible is a collection of highly biased writings commissioned by the bloke who started Christianity, and he certainly didn't commission intellectuals, philosophers or those who were learned. Hence why the Bible is full of bizarre anti-woman stuff and the emphasis on the male seed being allowed to flourish regardless of the cost, alongside all the other typical playground gang rants.
So, everything Akin 'believes' he got from the Bible and he was indoctrinated with from his childhood.
