Blue Peter flutters off BBC1

So, the BBC announced that children’s TV programmes would be shuffled off their flagship channel BBC1 but would continue on CBBC, the BBC’s very popular children’s TV channel.

And what happened?

An outcry.

Social networks were full of arseholes lamenting the ‘end of an era’, concentrating on how ‘Blue Peter’ had been part of their childhood and it just wasn’t right that it was ‘going’.

The children’s TV programme ‘Blue Peter’ isn’t going of course, it is just not going to be repeated on the BBC1 schedules any more, sensibly.  It will remain on CBBC where it’s also been broadcast for some time.

Blue Peter circa 1958 with Christopher Trace, 25, & Leila Williams, 21. Sexy!

What I find most mystifying about this ‘outcry’ is that it’s got no advantage whatsoever by also being broadcast on BBC1 as well as CBBC.  Children watch CBBC and CITV.  That’s what they do. They don’t watch BBC1.

Out of touch journalists picking up on this story, including those who write for the BBC Online service, decided to tell the story as ‘Blue Peter’ leaving “terrestrial” station BBC1, and going to “digital” station CBBC.

As we’ve already said, currently ‘Blue Peter’ is broadcast on both, so it’s not “moving”, just being dropped by one station.  This seems to escape the understanding of ‘journalists’ writing up this story.

More importantly, look at how they’ve defined BBC1 compared to CBBC!  Their mad minds map one station as “terrestrial” and the other as “digital“.  Eh?

Both stations are exactly the same, being “digital” and as far as “terrestrial” broadcasts are concerned, both are usually broadcast via exactly the same terrestrial transmitter.  If a person can receive BBC1 they can receive CBBC.  So why try to treat them as if they are radically different delivery systems or platforms?

Journalist need to get their heads clear of their drinks, drugs and prejudices long enough to reflect on this and how ridiculous and grossly inaccurate they are being in their presentation of facts.

I mean, I could fully understand this faux outrage if ‘Blue Peter’ could now only be seen by those with a Sky satellite receiver, or those with a Virgin cable connection.  Yet, this is NOT the case.  ‘Blue Peter’ can be seen by anybody watching standard terrestrial telly, i.e., Freeview.

What is it with these journalists? What is it with this ‘mob stupidity’ that seems to take over and have people upset over absolutely nothing?  Do they never actually step around their TV channels to find the other ones?  Are they living as if we only have BBC1 and ITV1?

These people are allowed to vote and reproduce, when surely they need to be locked up for their own safety lest they suddenly realise how fecking stupid they are and frighten themselves.
