Aha, so political correctness really has now gone mad.
According to surveys 75% of businesses reveal they are too frightened. Most of the employees of major institutions talk about this in hushed tones, almost apologising for letting it slip out. Will they get the sack or get put on a disciplinary if they break the unspoken rules?
You see, it’s the unspoken of time of the year – Christmas. (Whoops, I mentioned it once but I think I got away with it.)

Christmas is a festival that was hijacked from its Pagan roots, and for more than a good few centuries has been used by Christians to celebrate the birth of their guru called Jesus. However, adjacent and at the same time, a lot of the traditions of the original Pagan celebrations have been retained, and the word Christmas has become a generic term for a period of relaxation, being with the family, and most importantly, giving presents to children. It is a wonderful and magical time for them with tales of Father Christmas, flying reindeer, and bright lights and fun. And the presents. Lots of presents.
However, there are a growing number of white middle-class folk who hate children having fun and the wonderment of the traditions of Christmas. These are the people who have banned Christmas.
These people are at their most powerful in local and national government and in the larger private companies, educational institutions, and anywhere they can rule ordinary people with terror and intimidation.
Where these people dominate, the corridors tremble with staff unable to follow their instincts to put up Christmas trees or decorations or to send each other Christmas cards. If they really must, they are allowed to talk about “the Festive Season” or “Holiday” but the word ‘Christmas’ is completely banned.
Under this climate of fear anybody walking into a room actually containing a hint of Christmas decoration, no matter how small, will lift a hand to their mouth and a sharp intake of breath will be followed by a hushed, “Are we allowed to celebrate Christmas? Aren’t you going to get in trouble for that?”
The tradition of exchanging cards is challenged. It must be controlled where it can’t be stamped out. Of course, the spineless white middle-class middle-mangement types who are trying to destroy Christmas have already made sure that any ‘corporate’ cards to be sent out don’t mention the evil ‘C’ word. Instead, cards with no Christmas scenes (not just Nativity scenes are banned, no Father Christmasses, snow scenes, or anything traditional is allowed) and innocuous words that mainly refer to the coming ‘new year’ are grudgingly sent to those who might be worth doing future business with.
So what is it that motivates these mad people who want to take Christmas away? Apparently, they believe that Christmas and its celebration might offend people who are not Christian but from other religions, mainly those brought up to the tune of Islam. Not that these white middle-class apologists have actually bothered to ask Muslims, of course. The apologists, as they always do, have already made their judgements on behalf of others without even asking them.
Had they bothered to ask or had they even the slightest knowledge of the non-Christian but religious communities that are newer to the UK, they would have discovered that Christmas and its celebration is not considered an insult. Muslims have their own main Eid and other festivals which they expect to be allowed to celebrate how they see fit, so why would the traditions of a predominantly Christian country bother them? They don’t. But the apologists don’t bother to find this out!
The result of all this? Well, as usual, the actions of these few white middle-class apologists pisses off the ordinary folk who just want to relax and have fun and help the children enjoy the magic. At the same time, instead of realising it’s the fault of these mad people, their underlings feel threatened and blame the non-Christian cultures and religions and communities, becoming suspicious and there is unrest between them. An unrest all actually caused by the misguided white middle-class middle-management apologists who want to ban Christmas.
But hold on a second, have we missed something? Can these mad people really be so completely stupid that they actually believe what they are saying or are they up to something far more sinister? Maybe their logic isn’t just so completely flawed. Maybe they have something bigger on their agenda, and turning communities against each other is part of a bigger cause than just taking Christmas away from the children. I’ve a feeling we will find out over the next few years.
