I got to hear the news today that a girl working for a company I have a relationship with (the company not the girl), was sacked on the spot. Good.
Apparently, the night before she had been involved in a small prang in her company car, going into the back of another motorist. Fortunately nobody was hurt.
She was driving drunk, as do so many folks these days. It turns out she had sunk 3 or 4 pints in an after-work binge, and then got straight into her car. There’s no mention of whether or not she was also coked-up off her face which is the norm for people in her type of business.
The inevitable happened. She lost control, police were there, and they sussed she was yet another drunk in charge of a vehicle.
She moans that the drink was possibly having even more of an affect on her since she was also undertaking the ‘Special K diet’ which appears to be where you only eat bowls of Special K all week. The stupid bitch didn’t think that she’s a big fat cow because of the drink then, eh?
Anyway, she’s a bit pissed off at losing her job, but doesn’t care about her licence. She’s driving on an international licence, and any points or disqualification won’t affect her original licence from ‘back home’. So, to her there’s no potential for great loss.
However, to all the rest of us, there certainly was the potential for great loss. This drunken bitch could have killed any one of us had we been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
We would all look on in horror were a person to take a loaded automatic machine gun into a playground full of kids, put on a blindfold and swing around randomly pulling the trigger. With luck nobody would die. With luck nobody would be injured. But, very likely there would be massive carnage.
A drunk and / or druggie trying to drive is no different to the person with the gun. They are attempting to control a potential weapon, which will inevitably destroy other people’s lives. Yet we don’t see the parallels.
If we captured the person with the gun we’d put them in prison for a long time for attempted murder.
A drunk driver should be charged with attempted murder if they are discovered, even if they’ve not yet hurt anybody.
Maybe the girl in question might not be so cocky if she knew she faced a considerable sentence in prison for being such a self-centred prat.
