The genocide extended beyond the Jews, and a total of 15 million were estimated to have been ‘terminated’, of which 6 million were Jewish. Nearly two thirds of those executed were not Jewish.
Who’s really counting, as even one person being terminated for being born in the ‘wrong’ ethnic group is horrific, but who’s there wailing for the “others” and demanding memorial days and guilt?
The Romanies and those from Poland probably suffered the most outrageous ethnic cleansing looking at the percentage of their population that were rounded up and executed. Who wails for them?
What about the lower caste Germans, those born with defects, the children with faces that didn’t fit. Who wails for them?
When the tsunami hit and instantly wiped out 250,000 souls, we cared about all of them. We didn’t pick just one ethnic or religious group to be shocked about, and not give a toss about the others. Well, yes, for a while we were pre-occupied with holidaying nationals from ‘our’ countries. But that was only really in case we knew someone who knew someone. Once the full horror of the devastation unfolded we didn’t pick a particular colour of orphaned child to feel sorry for. When the cameras showed never ending kilometre after kilometre of devastation, or when the satellite before and after pictures showed there was no after, we didn’t ask about the religion of the families now gone forever. We grieved for them all.
And so it should be with the Holocaust. All people should be affected and ashamed of this awful era. The grieving should be for all the victims, not just a selected number of them. The “others” were not an inconsequential collection of nobodys to be forgotten. Even more so if they were so ‘cleansed’ that they have nobody left to remember them.
Let the memory of those who perished needlessly at the hands of the Nazis not discriminate for or against any of the victims.

The reality about German second world war concentration camps is largely distorted through post-war soviet propaganda. Of the main 22 camps, six were in soviet controlled eastern Europe at the end of the conflict. It was these camps that were claimed to have “gas chambers” for the mass genocide of jews and other religious and ethnic groups.
Allied investigations of the camps located in non-communist controlled areas revealed no gas chambers. Unfortunately it wasn’t possible to undertake investigations of the six camps in soviet controlled countries and it was largely from these, that the KGB propagated horror stories of lampshades and soap being made from human skin.
The numbers you have quoted in your article are excessive in the extreme. Nobody can provide a precise figure on camp deaths although the Simon Wiesenthal Center answers this question by stating that the 6,000.000 figure was an invention of communist officials in Poland.
Even the figure of one million dead is now considered to be over-inflated. The new figures for estimated Jewish deaths is now approaching the all time low of 300,000 to 600,000 according to researchers.
The question as to how many Jews did perish will probably never be completely resolved, but it is fair to conclude that whatever the figure, it ought to correspond with the number of inmates who perished as a result of the many typhus epidemics, along with those who died from natural causes, illness, and other factors.

Herman, I attended a talk by a holocaust survivor who discussed the soap an lampshades which she'd seen and handled. They weren't inventions, unfortunately. People even fought over the soap, something they would remember with shame.
I don't care about the exact figures, what I do care about is the inhumanity shown to innocent victims – the disabled, Romanies, political prisoners and Jews, amongst others.
I'd rather the holocaust was remembered, even if just for one social group, than we forget the sheer horror shown to fellow human beings.

Professor Yehuda Bauer, head of the Hebrew University's Holocaust history department and regarded as one of the foremost researchers of the Holocaust, has denied the frequently quoted charge that bodies were used to make soap. It is a propaganda story that was re-used by the soviets and had its origins from the FIRST world war again for propaganda purposes.
