I’m writing this using the remaining fingers on my left hand, along with the stump that used to be my thumb. Wiping the dripping blood from the keyboard, I am here to appeal for your help. I ask, because those who visit England’s England do tend to have an extremely high level of creativity and knowledge. I need to appeal to those who live and breath the right answer to any question posed.
My fingers have tiny puncture holes and feel the pain of having been chewed persistently, and there are lacerations to parts of my body that appear to have the look of skid marks. I ache all over, and my sleep pattern has been destroyed.
You see, last week a 10 week old kitten joined our household.
Back in 2011 we became a two cat household when a brace of middle aged lady cats moved in from a local rescue centre. Very sadly, one of them just completely disappeared in January 2013. Not knowing what had happened to her was heartbreaking. So, for many months the remaining cat was alone in lording over the territory they used to share.
That was until last week when we, rightly or wrongly, decided to adopt a kitten.
So, ‘Butty’ is a fairly old cat. She’s very hairy and set in her ways. Sleeping is important to her, as is hanging around in the old people’s home down the street, or sitting on walls or in the window looking out. We love her to bits although she is just so aloof most of the time, living her life and us living ours, seeing each other a couple of times a day.
However, this kind of symbiotic living is not what a kitten is into. A kitten requires constant attention, and wants to play, sleep and ‘live’ on top of humans in whatever way it can. A kitten is a constant attention seeker. Why didn’t somebody remind us of this before we took on this kitten?
Well, c’est la vie, alongside ‘Butty’ is now this bundle of constant activity and demands. We are enjoying it really. But what name should we give it?
It’s mainly black, with a white belly, and white paws, and it’s a boy. We just cannot arrive at a good, yet original name.
Apart from being a kitten, it doesn’t seem to have shown any specific characteristics beyond just being a kitten, so we can’t ‘hang’ a name on him based on anything specific.
In contrast, ‘Butty’ is so called because she head-butts things. Hard. Especially other cats. See? An easy choice of name.
But our new little kitten just behaves like a kitten. It climbs, it roots, it keeps on the move, and it attacks when least expected. Like 4 in the morning when you’ve been asleep for hours.
Yet, it is the kitten with no name. That can’t be good, surely?
So, over to you, you people cleverer than us. What should we call the kitten?
