I don’t recall Peter Sissons retiring. I remember him as an ITN News Anchor and I remember him as the BBC’s Flagship Nine O’Clock News Anchor, and on what was called BBC News 24 (it’s currently called BBC News), but he disappeared, time moved on and I didn’t notice he’d gone. However, I do recall him in his peak as a man I felt I could trust with the truth about what was happening around the world. He was one of those old style uncomplicated newscasters without an agenda.
Well, without me noticing he’d retired, he has just published the most amazing memoirs called “When One Door Closes” (available here) within which he exposes all of the political correctness gone mad that is the BBC and its inability to be neutral on certain subjects. As a tease, parts of the book are being serialised in the Daily Mail (here).
Anybody who has worked in broadcasting will know that there is no longer such a thing as ‘risk’ unless you are in a war zone. Inside the UK, where we have programming like “Magicians” or the awful “Famous and Fearless” that pretend the contestants are facing scaringly near-death challenges, we know that the obsessive compulsive twitching of Health and Safety regulations and over-the-top Risk Assessments mean that nothing is ever as it is portrayed to the audience, and everything is so ultra safe. Maybe litigation has driven this, but it is a madness and a nightmare for impulsive ‘creatives’ (like myself!) who are worn down by it and end up all so often taking the easy option and complying with the need to be grey.
All of this comes to light in Peter’s book. And of course, of special interest to me as a climate sceptic (someone who certainly does not believe that the science is settled on Man-Made Global Warming, and very suspicious of those who want us to believe it is) are the facts he reveals about the BBC’s editorial decision to only accept the Global Warming religion and the voices of its prophets, and to shun or label as bonkers those who might be singing from a different song-sheet. This was the thrust of the extract that was published here in the Daily Mail (and immediately caused an outcry from the ‘left’, as you’d expect).
Blimey. What a revelation. Not unexpected of course, but there it all is from a man we can trust. It’s official: The BBC is left-wing biased and wants to promote the Global Warming religion. Peter doesn’t hold back on explaining how this was implemented and how it therefore distorted news presentation for the years it was first rampant, and up to very recent times.
Like most sceptics, Peter wondered at the religious fever that surrounded the scam and the desperate need to broadcast its propaganda, and so he started to dig around like any true journalist should. That’s when he started to see the bigger picture of what’s really going on and how the BBC is being used as a primary propaganda machine in the UK for the left (It’s “in the BBC’s DNA”, Peter claims) and the Global Warming activists.
Surely, this revelation is worthy of the commissioning of a public enquiry into why the publicly funded broadcaster is allowing itself to be used in this way.

Nothing new to me in Mr. Sissons' revelations. Why didn't he have the balls to do something about it when he was employed at the BBC though?

I can't think how I missed this back in November, but I did – and therefore bring it to your attention just in case you missed it as well.
Martin Durkin's latest film. Yes – he of the Great Global Warming Swindle, which although controversial, was a really remarkable piece of journalism. I have since spoken to two of the contributors, and despite the claims made by its detractors, they stand by what they said.
Anyway, in November, he made a film about the causes of Britain's financial woes – “Britain's Trillion Pound Nightmare.
It's now on youtube. Well worth watching.

What makes the BBC particularly influential on public opinion is the perception that it's presenting the facts from an unbiased perspective. People tend to buy newspapers that reflect their political orientation. You could argue therefore that they have less impact on public opinion than the BBC which is watched by people from a much broader spectrum. Its unfair that people who do not share its political bias have to fund it. We wouldn't expect Mirror readers to fund the Daily Mail.
Either the Licence fee should be scrapped or the BBC should be forced to restructure its workforce so that its no longer predominantly left wing.
