I finally got to laugh at Sandi Toksvig. She’s the short-arsed comedienne who infests lunchtimes on my local talking station, LBC. The format of the show is quite a simple one. She and her selection of left-wing earth-kissing guests spend their time laughing at people in the public eye. Whenever possible they will laugh at people like Anne Widecombe or Margaret Thatcher or the ever increasing collection of virtually anybody deemed to not be in the ‘acceptable’ camp. It’s interesting hearing her find excuses and apologising for Tony B-liar all the time, but not that interesting hearing her constant ridiculing of film stars, soap stars, pop stars, or anybody not thinking the way she thinks.
I switched her on by accident whilst doing something in the kitchen, and where normally I would immediately press the button to find something actually entertaining to listen to, my attention was caught by her relating the story of how she was getting out of a cab and was recognised by a bunch of men who then proceeded to call out to her and say stuff about her being ugly. They obviously said a lot more, and she was clearly hurt to be on the receiving end of ridicule for no readily apparent reason.
It was at this point that I finally got to laugh at Sandi Toksvig. Will she learn from the experience what it’s like to be picked on and subjected to unfair ridicule? Probably not. Like most people who make a living out of laughing at other people, she can give it but can’t take it. Hilarious!
